Our client, a beauty company, is looking for a Director of Merchandising to join their team in NYC!

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of established beauty, personal care, cosmetics, and fragrance accounts, serving as the primary point of contact for buyers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers while identifying opportunities to expand and grow existing business.
• Develop seasonal and ongoing product assortments and line plans based on customer needs, market trends, and sales opportunities.
• Lead line building from concept through execution, ensuring products are commercially viable and aligned with account requirements.
• Communicate directly with factories and overseas vendors regarding product development, pricing, timelines, and execution.
• Negotiate aggressively with buyers and vendors to secure profitable business and maximize margins.
• Conduct regular competitive and market research/comp shops to identify trends, pricing opportunities, and gaps in the market.
• Partner with buyers on upcoming seasonal goods, product opportunities, and assortment strategies.
• Analyze account needs and market opportunities to proactively pitch new products and grow volume.
• Leverage strong knowledge of the off-price beauty landscape to identify opportunities across retailers and channels.
• Utilize CAD/design knowledge to support product development and presentations when applicable.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of merchandising experience within beauty, personal care, cosmetics, fragrance, or related categories.
• Deep, proven experience specifically within the off-price beauty market is required.
• Strong existing knowledge of off-price retailers, buyers, pricing structures, and business models.
• Demonstrated success growing accounts and generating new business.
• Proven ability to negotiate confidently with buyers, vendors, and factories.
• Strong understanding of line building, assortment development, product development, and seasonal merchandising.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Must be highly self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and comfortable operating independently.
• Ability to move quickly, prioritize effectively, and thrive in a fast-growing environment.
• CAD/design experience is a major plus but not required.
